Question: anyone actually get rats or do they end up getting out?
Answer: NO

Question: The rats in my barn chew through plastic. Isn't this a problem when using buckets?
Answer: If you fill it with water ,by the time they think about chewing their way out , it's to late . We love ours , it works well for our farm. You fill Pail 1/2 way with water and they drown. That said, my rat I’m trying to caTch is suspicious of the pail and won’t go near it or any trap.  I catch all kinds of mice in the pail though.  We did not have a problem. So far so good.
